"5th School on
High Performance Computing in Astrophysics"
Galway, Ireland - JANUARY 8th - 12th 2008
Stellar jets are complex physical systems. Their study necessitates
incorporating nonlinear effects which occur on a wide variety of length and timescales.
As a result of this one of the primary methods used to study the physics of jets is numerical
simulations. Since the physics is so complex, the problems are large enough to make mandatory
the use of high performance computing techniques. Further, modern astrophysical datasets
associated with observations are becoming so large that standard analysis methods are no
longer efficient.
The School will address the methods used to simulate
astrophysical jets and to derive useful information from large datasets,
focusing on techniques involving high performance computing.

"ERASMUS INTENSIVE PROGRAM on "Supercomputing and Numerical Methods in Astrophysical Fluid Flow Modelling"
"
University of Evora, Portugal 4-23 February 2008
This training school brings together, for the first time in Europe, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers and experienced European
computational physicists and astrophysicists to discuss an integrated overview of the numerical and computational techniques that are most
adequate to model different astrophysical fluid flow phenomena by means of supercomputing simulations. The participants will attend theoretical and laboratory courses and a half-day Workshop per week on computational Astrophysics (see details
below). On the third week the participants will develop a computational project that will make use of the supercomputer facility at the
University of Coimbra.
